After our intensive work on the Uluburun Shipwreck, we embarked on the Kaş Underwater Archaeopark project to explore the possibilities of further underwater excavations, whether at the original shipwreck site or in a dedicated dive area. Our vision was to gain experience in underwater archaeology and establish a vibrant working and training space to witness the transformation of a shipwreck over time.
In 2006, in collaboration with the Underwater Research Association, we brought the Uluburun ship to life once more by constructing a replica in Kaş. This remarkable replica, filled with imitation cargo, was then sunk in the breathtaking Hidayet Bay. We also placed a replica of the original wreck as discovered in 1982, along with a model of the excavation site, utilizing carefully crafted imitation materials. This innovative area has been designated as an underwater archaeopark, proudly standing as the first of its kind in our country and the world, inspiring future generations to dive into the depths of history.
