This innovative project aspired to reconstruct and analyse various anchor designs from 3000 BC to the Byzantine period. Led by Archaeologist Gregory Votruba, a committed doctoral student in the Department of Archaeology at Oxford University and a participant in underwater studies at Ankara University and Urla Underwater Archaeological Application and Research Center, This initiative transcends mere academic interest—it is an exploration of our maritime heritage. We meticulously recreated 72 distinct anchors and evaluated their performance in diverse seabed conditions, including sandy and rocky environments. These significant findings, captured through photographs and films, will illuminate the technologies of the past and their practical significance.
